The haunted story of the theaters past and present.
THE COLUMBIA CITY “HAUNTED” THEATER
Columbia City Theater, a charming yet quirky venue in Seattle, Washington, rich with history
and echoes of laughter, music, and the clatter of vintage performances. Once a candy shop,
then a vaudeville stage, and now a haven for artists, it harbors a playful secret: the spirits of
former performers and workers.
As the sun sets, casting a warm glow over Columbia City Theater, the whispers of the past
begin to stir. Among the shadows, a gathering of friendly ghosts, ghouls, skeletons, witches, and
even a mummy head start to convene. They are all residents of this historic theater, their
existence a celebration of the performances that once brought the building to life.
The Columbia City Theater, a magical place where history and the supernatural intertwine,
becomes an electrifying hub for spirits and friendly creatures. From the lively bar area to the
enchanting balcony, the theater pulses with life—both living and spectral.
The Enchanted Bar:
The bar area, now a welcoming haunt for friendly spirits and critters, buzzes with laughter and
camaraderie. Ghostly patrons, from jazz musicians to vaudeville stars, mingle with enchanted
creatures like friendly bats and shimmering fairies, all drawn in by the vibrant atmosphere. The
pumpkin-headed Quincy Jones expertly pours spectral drinks that sparkle like stardust, creating
a sense of joy that transcends the living and the dead.
As the moon rises high, illuminating the old marquee, the theater buzzes with excitement for the
evening’s special event: a tribute concert led by none other than the spectral version of Ella
Fitzgerald. The stage is set, and an electric atmosphere fills the air.
Under the soft glow of vintage lights, skeletal Ella Fitzgerald takes center stage, her bony
fingers gently caressing the microphone. Her voice, rich and haunting, fills the theater as she
sings classic jazz tunes. On the bar, skeletal legends Jimi Hendrix and Ray Charles sit, their
ghostly forms swaying to the rhythm, each taking a sip from spectral drinks concocted by Quincy
Jones, who has returned as a friendly ghost with a pumpkin head, grinning wide as he mixes
tunes and potions alike.
“Now that’s a haunting good time!” Jimi cackles, his laughter echoing through the room as Ray
nods, his spectral glasses glinting in the low light.
The Atrium of Enchantment:
As you leave the bar, the warm glow of the stage illuminates the ghostly figures around you.
Skeletal Ella Fitzgerald’s voice dances through the air, captivating all who listen. Beside you,
Jimi Hendrix shares wild stories about his electrifying performances, while Ray Charles
chuckles, recounting tales of how they “killed” audiences with their unforgettable shows.
“Back in the day,” Quincy, the pumpkin-headed bartender, adds with a mischievous grin, “we
had the crowd on their feet, spellbound!” His laughter echoes, blending seamlessly with the
music.
You then walk through a grand atrium, the echoes of laughter trailing behind you. This space is
adorned with vibrant decorations, mingling the eerie and the whimsical. Here, head busts of the
King and Queen of the Theater stand regal and imposing in the dim light.
“Welcome, dear guest!” the King proclaims, his voice a smooth baritone. “You’re about to enter
the realms where the spirits dwell. We assure you, it is a place of both fright and delight!”
The Queen smiles warmly, her ethereal presence calming. “As you venture deeper into the
haunted theater, remember: tread carefully. The enchantments within are both thrilling and
unpredictable. Enter at your own risk!”
The King gestures toward the hallway leading into the door that will open to more mysterious
sections of the theater. “But do not fear! We will see you again at our next haunting ball, whether
as a resident spirit or an honored guest!” Their laughter dances in the air, encouraging you to
embrace the adventure ahead.
As you move onward, you feel a sense of both excitement and trepidation. The haunting
melodies of Ella still in your ears and the King and Queen’s words echoing in your mind, you
step into the more spookier rooms of Columbia City Theater. Each doorway promises new
encounters with playful spirits, mischievous ghouls, and magical wonders.
Here, in this enchanted theater, the line between the living and the deceased blurs, and every
corner beckons with stories waiting to be discovered. Your adventure is just beginning, and the
allure of the haunting tales will linger long after the final curtain falls.
The Main Theater Room:
In the main theater room, an eight-foot ghost bartender, known as “Big Boo,” oversees the
living pumpkin patch, the enchanted petting zoo, which houses the skeletal pets of past
performers and workers, and the play area for the living. Skeletal cats and dogs playfully prance
around, while a few mischievous spirits join in the fun, leading to raucous laughter. The living
pumpkin patch sprawls across the theater, its pumpkins glowing warmly, providing a cozy
backdrop for the ongoing festivities. The big screen on the theater stage plays frightful movies
that air over the theaters haunted sound system as you tour the vintage movie house.
Big Boo’s Frightful Delights: Big Boo, the towering eight-foot ghost bartender, serves up a
variety of deliciously frightening mocktails and cocktails, each more whimsical than the last. “Try
the Ghostly Goblet or the Spooky Spritzer!” he booms, his laughter echoing through the theater
as he expertly mixes drinks that bubble and fizz. Guests, both living and spectral, gather at the
bar in the theater, sharing stories and laughter, enjoying the vibrant atmosphere.
Family Fun in the Theater: In the main theater room, the living engage in family-friendly games
that fill the space with joy. Ghostly spectators cheer them on, while the living pumpkins—infused
with laughter and cheer—roll around, sharing jokes and playful banter. Big Boo keeps an eye on
the festivities, delighted to see everyone enjoying themselves. The camaraderie among spirits
and guests creates an ambiance of pure joy.
